Gift Recorder is a service provided by Copper Ocean Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 07468518). These terms govern your use of the Gift Recorder website and application.

Gift Recorder is currently in an invited beta: a test phase in which a small number of invited users try the service and tell us what works. Access is by personal invitation and access code.

During the beta the service runs on a test environment, and anything you enter is test data: it will be deleted when the beta phase ends and is not carried over to the live service. Please do not enter records you need to keep — at full launch you would enter your real records afresh. Features may change, be added or be withdrawn during the beta.

Gift Recorder helps you create and maintain a private record of lifetime gifts: recording gifts and recipients, classifying them under the published exemption rules, tracking the seven-year position, attaching supporting evidence, sharing read-only views with people you choose, and exporting an IHT403-aligned gift schedule. It is a record-keeping tool for you and, where you choose, the people who help you.

Gift Recorder does not provide tax, legal, financial or investment advice, and nothing in the service is personalised advice. It does not file anything with HMRC, and no output implies HMRC acceptance. Classifications, allowance positions and other calculated figures are indicative record-keeping aids derived from the information you enter and the published rules for the relevant tax year — they are not a tax assessment or a final liability. For advice on your own position, speak to a qualified professional.

Your beta access code and your sign-in credentials are personal to you: keep them secure and do not share them. You are responsible for the accuracy of the records you enter and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@giftrecorder.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

Your ledger is yours. You decide who may view it, and any access you grant is read-only: it never transfers ownership and never lets the other person change your records. You can change or revoke access at any time. Some professional-access features carry additional security requirements, explained where they apply.

Use the service only for lawful record-keeping. Do not attempt to access anyone else's records, probe or test the security of the service without our written consent, disrupt its operation, or upload files containing malicious software. Uploaded files are scanned, and files that fail scanning are quarantined.

The beta is provided without any commitment to availability, and we may take it offline for maintenance or changes without notice. Support is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis by email to support@giftrecorder.com.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, the beta service is provided "as is": to the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude all other liability arising from your use of, or inability to use, the beta service — including loss of data entered during the beta, which is test data by design. You remain responsible for your own tax affairs and for keeping your own records.

You can stop using the beta at any time. We may suspend or withdraw access if these terms are breached, and may end the beta phase at any time. When the beta ends, test data is deleted as described in the Privacy Notice.

These terms are versioned. Each published version shows its version number and effective date on this page, and prior versions remain available in the update history. If we make material changes during the beta, we will tell you.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
